Terms of service
By using Carnet (carnet.wine), you agree to these terms. Carnet is provided "as is" — a small wine-companion app run by a single maker. The terms are short on purpose.
1. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old (or the legal drinking age in your country) to use Carnet.
- Sign-in is via Google. You're responsible for keeping your Google account secure.
- One human per account. Don't share credentials.
2. Your content
The tasting notes, cellar inventory, photos, and other data you enter remain yours. Carnet stores them and processes them on your behalf — for example, computing pairings or running drills against your saved notes — but Carnet does not claim ownership of your data.
You grant Carnet a non-exclusive licence to host, store, and display your data within the app for the purpose of providing the service to you. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Carnet to:
- Upload illegal, threatening, or knowingly false content.
- Infringe anyone else's intellectual property or privacy.
- Attempt to break, attack, or scrape the service.
- Resell or commercialise the service without permission.
4. Wine knowledge content
Carnet draws from public-domain wine knowledge (the CMS deductive tasting framework, the LWIN catalogue under Liv-ex licensing, the editorial wisdom of works like "What to Drink with What You Eat"). The structural pairing engine, the grape profiles, the region descriptions, and the inline learning content are Carnet's interpretation of that public material.
Pairing suggestions and drinking-window estimates are advisory. Wine is subjective; serve at your own judgement.
5. AI features
Carnet uses third-party AI (Google Gemini Flash) to generate editorial prose and to extract structural attributes from free-text food queries you submit. AI output can be wrong. Verify before staking anything important on it. See the Privacy policy for what we send to AI providers.
6. Service availability
Carnet is a small operation. We try to keep it up but make no uptime guarantees. We may need to take it down for maintenance, recover from outages, or — if necessary — shut the service entirely with reasonable notice. In all cases your right to export your data is preserved (Settings → Data & privacy → Export).
7. Subscriptions & Pro features
Some features are free; some require a paid subscription (Pro). If you subscribe:
- Billing is handled by Stripe.
- You can cancel any time from Settings.
- Refunds are at our discretion — write to dhendy11@gmail.com if something's wrong.
Pricing and feature availability may change. We'll notify existing subscribers of changes that affect their plan.
8. Termination
You can delete your account at any time (Settings → Data & privacy → Delete account). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or pose security risks; we'll notify you when reasonably possible.
9. Liability
Carnet is provided without warranties. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Carnet's aggregate liability is limited to the amount you've paid for the service in the previous twelve months (or £20 if you're on the free tier).
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of London.
